Skid Lifters: Streamline Warehouse Operations with Ease

Skid Lifters: Streamline Warehouse Operations with Ease

In the bustling world of warehouses, skid lifters, also known as pallet trucks, take center stage as the most essential equipment. Their primary function is to efficiently lift and transport pallets and cartons throughout the warehouse. At Gold Key Equipment, we understand the importance of seamless logistics, and our skid lifters are designed to enhance productivity and convenience in warehouse operations.

In this article, we will provide you with everything you need to know about skid lifters, including their categories, operation guide, and different types available.

Categories of Skid Lifters

Skid lifters are available in two main categories: manual and electrical. The choice between the two depends on the specific requirements and weight capacity of your project. Electrical skid lifters come with automatic floor locks, making them effortless to operate. On the other hand, manual skid lifters resemble carts and require manual stabilization of pallets. While the manual option may seem slightly more complex, we are here to guide you through its use.

A Complete Guide for Skid Lifter Operation

To ensure smooth operation of a manual skid lifter, follow these steps:

Step 1: Stand beside the skid lifter and locate the two spikes on the metal handle, pointing outward.

Step 2: These spikes are responsible for lifting the pallets. Pull up the pallets using these spikes.

Step 3: In the center of the handle, find a plastic shaft, often in a different color for visibility.

Step 4: Press the shaft and move the pallet up and down to your desired position.

Step 5: Once in position, move the pallets over the skid/pallet of the lifter.

Step 6: The lower spikes will obstruct movement. Therefore, first raise them to the upper position by controlling the shaft. Lower them again after placing the pallets.

Step 7: When the spikes are down, carefully slide them below the pallet you want to move. If the spikes are too high to go under the pallet, press the releasing heel to lower them.

Step 8: Ensure that the spikes go through the bottom of the pallet, allowing the tires to be on the floor for smooth movement.

Types of Skid Lifters

Skid lifters are available in various types to cater to different needs:

Tote Lifters

Designed for lifting skids, baskets, and boxes, tote lifters operate using a combination of DC power and a hand pump controlled by a rocker switch.

High Lift Trucks

Ideal for lifting baskets and skids, high lift trucks utilize an electric pump to perform their functions.

High Rise Lift Trucks

These lift trucks offer efficient and fast functions, helping reduce muscle fatigue during operations.

Tote-A-Loads

If you're looking for an easy-to-operate skid lifter, tote-a-loads are an excellent choice, capable of lifting various types of loads.

Single Fork Skid Position Lifter

This type features a single centered palette, simplifying the loading and unloading process.
